Sir Peter Charles Leitch - KNZM QSM

Peter Leitch left Wellington Technical College at age 15 to work as a telegram delivery boy and later in Wellington butchers shops before moving to Auckland.

His chance to be his own boss came when the landlord of a vacant butcher’s shop at Rosella Road, Mangere, took a shine to him and financed him into business. Leitch later moved to a shop in nearby Massey Road, which became the starting-point for a national butchery chain known as The Mad Butcher.

Leitch was also an active champion of many causes, including his favourite code, rugby league, and favourite team, the Vodafone Warriors. He also chaired The Mad Butcher and Suburban Newspapers Community Trust, which raised more than $1 million for charities.
