Sir Ronald Ramsay Trotter
Born in Hawera and educated in Wanganui, Victoria University College and Lincoln College, Ron Trotter started work as a stock clerk in 1949. He was destined to become a leader in the stock-and-station industry.
Trotter rose to become managing director and chairman of Wright Stephenson & Company, later managing director and chairman of Challenge Corporation, later still chief executive and chairman of Fletcher Challenge and, finally, chairman of Wrightson.
Trotter also chaired or directed a number of outside companies and professional associations. He was the founder and inaugural chairman of the New Zealand Business Roundtable and led the Economic Summit Conference sponsored by the incoming Labour government in 1984.
