George Methven
Methven set up the business that still bears his name in 1886, in Dunedin. An advertisement noted Methven’s company as being “mechanical engineers, iron and brass founders, agricultural implement makers, blacksmiths and duplicators of all makers' implements”.
Success was credited to Methven’s strategy of high-quality products that were price competitive and it wasn’t until the age of 70 that George stepped down from the company. Its fitting in the year that the company turns 130 that George’s ‘Spirit of Innovation’ is alive and well, with Methven products winning awards all over the world.
