John and Leonie Hynds established J.R. Hynds Ltd contracting in 1973 in Papakura with a manufacturing operation in their backyard.
The Hynds Group now employs more than 650 people and encourages the development of New Zealand manufacture and innovation and services to the country’s civil contracting industry. It is considered to be New Zealand's major manufacturer and supplier of products for the management of water and water-based waste and in the development of New Zealand's infrastructure.
Despite its considerable size, the Hynds Group is still a family-owned business. John and Leonie are generously supportive of the community in which their business flourished through the Hynds Charitable Foundation.
