Sir Roderick Bignell Weir
Rod Weir started work with New Zealand Loan & Mercantile Agency Company in 1943 as an office junior in the Wanganui office. He was aged 15.
He progressed to the livestock department and branch livestock managership at Otaki, beginning his long involvement with Horowhenua.
In the early 1960s Weir was moved to the Wellington head office, and in 1963, a few months after the merger of Dalgety & Company with New Zealand Loan & Mercantile Agency Company, he resigned to go out on his own as a stock-and-station agent in Levin - the start of a career that would see him establish the Crown Consolidated group and later Dalgety Crown which he merged with Wrightson NMA in 1986.
