(George) Peter Shirtcliffe - CMG

Peter Shirtcliffe might have gone through life as a sharebroker had not fate intervened with the takeover of A S Paterson & Company in 1976.

Shirtcliffe became executive chairman by virtue of a family shareholding and was later managing director of Goodman Group, which the company became in 1979.

He retired in 1986, taking on several directorships including chairmanship of the New Zealand Market Development Board, Telecom Corporation of New Zealand and the New Zealand Trade Development Board.

In 1993 he founded the Campaign for Better Government Trust, which opposed the proposed MMP voting system.

Shirtcliffe also chaired the Enterprise Education Foundation, which merged with the Young Enterprise Trust, founder the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame.
