Edward Max Friedlander
Ted Friedlander was chairman and managing director of national clothing retailer Hallenstein Glasson Holdings from the 1970s until his retirement in 1989.
Born in Auckland and educated at John McGlashan College, Dunedin, he joined the Otago branch of Hallenstein Bros in 1939. He rejoined the company after war service and rose through the ranks to join the board in 1954 and become managing director in 1973 and chairman in 1977.
Friedlander served as president of the Otago Retailers' Association from 1963-64 and of the New Zealand Retailers' Federation in 1969. He was also active in the Institute of Management.
