Sir John Todd
John started his career at the age of 18 in the Todd Motors Assembly Plant and worked up through the company, becoming Managing Director in 1968. In 1987, as a result of changes in Government Import Regulations, Todd Motors was sold to Mitsubishi and that year John succeeded his uncle, the late Sir Bryan Todd as Executive Chairman of the Todd Group. In the subsequent twenty four years John has led the company into many successful ventures in energy exploration, production, generation and distribution; telecommunications; property and media. Today The Todd Corporation has four main operations. Todd Energy, Todd Property, Integria Healthcare and ARA, a Marlborough based producer of fine wines and has retained its shareholding in SKY and Crown Castle Australia.
John also chairs the charitable Todd Foundation focusing on funding for children, young people, their families and communities and in 1990 helped establish Philanthropy New Zealand. He was a founding trustee of the Arts Foundation of New Zealand and among other organisations, has been a trustee of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council and the Royal New Zealand Ballet. In 2009 John was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit and was knighted in 2012 for services to business.
